Emmanuel Hovhannisyan is an Armenian duduk player and composer from Yerevan. He was born in Yerevan on November 30,1983 and is one of the most famous musicians in his country.
At an early age, Emmanuel Hovhannisyan completed his first musical education at the H. Danielyan Art School and then attended the state Komitas Conservatory in Yerevan.
As a student, Emmanuel was awarded a prize at the Vienna Brass and Woodwind Music Instruments Festival in 2002. He is a laureate of other national and international awards, including the Edison Award Jazz / World 2012 in the Netherlands, and the Armenian National Music Award 2012 in his home country.
Emmanuel Hovhannisyan is active in various internationally renowned musical projects and bands. He is a member of the Nagash Ensemble, the Tagharan Ancient Music Ensemble and the Gurdjieff Ensemble. The Grdjieff Ensemble has already released several highly acclaimed albums on the German jazz and world music label ECM Records.
In addition to his extremely diverse band engagements, Emmanuell Hovhannisyan is the first duduk player in the Armenian National Orchestra, and has already participated in several theatre and film productions.
Emmanuel Hovhannisyan has performed at numerous festivals and concerts around the world, both as a solo musician and as a member of the various musical projects. Among others at the Beiteddine Art Festival in Lebanon, the Roots Revival Festival in Romania, the World Music Festival in Mongolia, the Etnokrakow Festival in Poland, the Budapest Spring Festival in Hungary and many more.
Under the project name "Emmanuel Hovhannisyan & Emotion Band" Emmanuel Hovhannisyan is currently working on an ethno/jazz fusion album. He is supported by the Armenian musicians Khachik Sahakyan (keyboards), Eduard Harutyunyan (percussion) and Levon Arakelyan (cello). The album will be released in 2019 by the Swiss world music label Dalit-Music.
